Aston Villa and Tottenham fans will remember the name Pierluigi Gollini – the Italian spent time at both Premier League clubs.
The Italy international made 20 appearances for the Villans before he was sold to Atalanta for just £3.75m back in 2018.
In regards to Gollini’s time at Tottenham, the 27-year-old made just ten appearances for Spurs after Nuno Espirito Santo signed him on loan for the 2021/22 campaign, but Antonio Conte rejected the chance to turn the deal permanent.
Now, both Aston Villa and Tottenham may start to think they gave up on the shot-stopper too soon.
What’s the story?
Well, Gollini is now close to joining Napoli – according to Fabrizio Romano.
It is quite a significant move for the Bologna-born glovesman, as Luciano Spalletti’s side find themselves top of Serie A by some margin.
As things stand, Napoli are nine points clear of AC Milan.
Romano believes Gollini has already agreed to join the league leaders, who have negotiated an option to buy in their discussions with Fiorentina.
Fiorentina will receive Salvatore Sirigu from Napoli in return.
Tottenham may regret Gollini more than Aston Villa
If there is any tinge of regret about giving up on Gollini, it is more likely to come from Tottenham than Villa Park.

Spurs are currently on the hunt to replace Hugo Lloris with the France international turning 37 this year, and Tutto Mercato Web believe Jordan Pickford is an option to replace him.
Contrastingly, Aston Villa have the World Cup winning Emiliano Martinez in between the sticks, a man who is arguably the best goalkeeper in Europe right now after his heroics in Qatar.
Be sure to keep an eye on Tottenham’s goalkeeping department, as it seems Lloris may not be the No.1 in N17 for much longer.
