Chelsea are willing to pay some of the wage Callum Hudson-Odoi would earn during a loan transfer through the 2022/23 season, amid interest in the forward from Newcastle United.

Chelsea willing to pay toward Hudson-Odoi wage amid Newcastle interest

According to the Evening Standard, new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is personally pleading with Callum Hudson-Odoi to not target a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge. He is determined to keep the 21-year-old in west London, but is battling widespread interest.

Newcastle United are the latest side to register their interest in a transfer for Hudson-Odoi in the closing stages of the market. Premier League teams Leicester City and Southampton are also keen on the three-cap England international, who Borussia Dortmund also want.

Eddie Howe is prepared to offer Hudson-Odoi a loan move to St James’ Park to play regular first-team football. Boehly is, currently, only inclined to consider a temporary move for the Blues product, and will contribute toward his £150k-a-week salary to avoid a full-time exit.

Any loan terms for the London-born winger will also not include an option or obligation to buy him next summer. But Hudson-Odoi is still yet to show his preference, with an array of further suitors making last-ditch attempts to convince the Chelsea star to snub Newcastle.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is in desperate need of regular first-team minutes

Hudson-Odoi seems to be nearing a move away from Chelsea in some form, amid interest from Newcastle et al, after he pulled out of the Blues’ Premier League 2 defeat at home to Fulham on Monday. Talks with an unnamed team are thought to be at an advanced stage.

It is possible that Newcastle are the favourites to fend off the rival interest Howe faces for Hudson-Odoi’s loan from Chelsea. Chronicle Live have reported that the right-sided winger is keen on a move to St James’, while the Blues view the Toon as a viable loan destination.

Thomas Tuchel is yet to field Hudson-Odoi in the Premier League this season after leaving the forward out of his matchday squad on the opening day at Everton. He also left the 21-year-old on the bench as Tottenham Hotspur held their London rivals to a 2-2 stalemate.

Hudson-Odoi is in desperate need of minutes this term after only starting 11 of his 15 top-flight games last season. He also offered one goal and three assists, with two laid on to win 3-1 at Aston Villa last December and draw praise from Tuchel, who dubbed him ‘brilliant’.
