Arsenal’s 4-1 demolition of Tottenham in the North London derby sparked wild celebrations among supporters, and Piers Morgan was front and centre.

The outspoken Gunners fan has often demanded more from his side, particularly in the striker department.

This time, though, he was full of praise, as Viktor Gyokeres delivered a performance that felt significant in a wider context.

Piers Morgan declares Viktor Gyokeres has ‘arrived’ after derby demolition

Gyokeres scored twice and led the line superbly as Tottenham’s back five struggled to contain him.

The Sweden international’s movement, physicality and composure in front of goal proved decisive. Morgan wasted no time in sharing his verdict.

“This is the best Gyokeres has played for Arsenal… he’s given 100% every time he’s played, but now he’s scoring lots of goals, assisting too, and looking like a top-class striker,” he said.

He doubled down moments later: “Gyokeres with another cracker… what a game he’s had. Finally, Arsenal have a world-class striker again. Love him.”

And then came perhaps the boldest line of all. “Our striker. Statement performance by Viktor Gyokeres,” Morgan wrote.

“The moment he truly arrived in the Premier League. Thanks, Ricky Gervais (you know why).”

Morgan framing it as Gyokeres’ true arrival will resonate with many Arsenal supporters who have long craved a ruthless number nine.

Viktor Gyokeres’ numbers now back up the hype

The derby display was not a one-off. Gyokeres now has five goals in his last five Premier League games.

He scored twice against Sunderland, twice against Spurs and added another against Leeds recently.

Earlier in the season, Gyokeres was praised for effort but questioned for consistency in providing goal contributions. Now he is delivering both.

Big strikers are defined by big moments, and doing it in a North London derby carries extra weight.

Spurs could not cope with his direct running or sharp finishing, and Arsenal’s attack looked far more complete as a result.

Morgan’s excitement may be over the top, as it often is, but the underlying point carries weight.

If Gyokeres continues this scoring run, Arsenal’s title ambitions become significantly more realistic.
