Piers Morgan’s love affair with Cristiano Ronaldo continued as he took aim at British commentators for their take on the 41-year-old, despite his goal against Croatia.

Ronaldo ended his 20-year wait to score in the knockout stages of the World Cup when he scored from the penalty spot to equalise in Portugal’s round of 32 clash.

Morgan has long claimed to be best friends with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner and regularly defends him online, as he did once again on X.

Piers Morgan defends Cristiano Ronaldo again

No sooner had Ronaldo scored was Morgan on social media ready to silence the haters.

Once he had finished posting about the goal, he decided to take aim at the British commentators for claiming that his performances hadn’t been good enough.

He said: “The BBC commentators in this Portugal-Croatia game have spent most of the match trashing @Cristiano and saying he should come off. Then he has a brilliant goal narrowly disallowed, and scores a superb penalty. And they’re STILL saying he should do more. Pathetic.”

Shortly after that, Roberto Martinez made the decision to substitute him as Croatia went in search of a winner.

Before kick-off, all the talk was around a possible retirement for Ronaldo after his sister claimed that he may call it quits on his career sooner rather than later.

Given that he will be 45 when the 2030 World Cup comes around in his home nation, it is unlikely that he will play in it. But, this is Cristiano Ronaldo, so you can’t say that for certain.
