Alan Smith has said on Sky Sports Premier League (6:58pm, October 2, 2021) that he was disappointed with the performance of Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Smith was on co-commentary duty on Sky Sports for the Premier League game between Brighton and Arsenal in the Premier League this past Saturday.

It ended in a goalless draw.

Former Arsenal striker Smith said in the 72nd minute when Aubameyang was coming off: “Yeah, I mean, having got that goal against Spurs, you would have expected him to be looking a bit sharper, but certainly hasn’t seen too much of the ball in the opposition’s box.”

Disappointing performance

Aubameyang’s performance against Brighton was disappointing and was criticised by Arsenal legend Ian Wright as well.

Arsenal as a team were poor against the Seagulls, and the 32-year-old really struggled to ask questions of the opposition defenders.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker could not always hold onto the ball when he got it.

Having scored against Tottenham Hotspur in the North London derby, Arsenal fans would have expected the £250,000-a-week striker to maintain that form against Brighton.

The £56 million striker took one shot, had a pass accuracy of 54.6%, won one header, and took 23 touches.

Aubameyang has blown hot and cold this season, and Arsenal fans would like to see consistency from the striker.

The Arsenal no.14 has scored two goals in six Premier League matches, and has scored three goals and provided one assist in one Carabao Cup appearance.
