What a lovely day it was for Arsenal supporters on Monday.

Not only did they beat West Ham United 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium to move seven points clear at the Premier League summit.

But they did it in front of Arsene Wenger.

The legendary Gunners manager returned to North London for the first time since leaving the Emirates back in 2018.

And the television cameras panned on him whenever Arsenal scored, the 73-year-old invariably beaming in satisfaction.

Earlier in December, Bukayo Saka admitted via The Standard that it was a big regret of his that he never got to meet the iconic French manager.

Wenger’s departure happened just before the 21-year-old exploded on to the scene at Arsenal, but the England international got his wish eventually on Boxing Day.

Saka uploaded two wholesome photographs on Instagram of him and Wenger sharing a warm embrace, with Emile Smith Rowe – who made his senior debut under the now-FIFA man – responding: “Pic of the year.”

Wenger delivered three Premier League titles and a record seven FA Cup crowns during his 22-year spell at Highbury and the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal still haven’t won a Premier League title since 2004 but – whisper it – it could change come May.
