Since the end of the season, Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi have been busy working to improve Newcastle in the transfer market.

Another move for Sven Botman has already been made, while Matt Targett has also been signed on a permanent basis.

However, Staveley and Ghodoussi aren’t just working to improve the playing staff at Newcastle…

What’s the story?

Well, the Newcastle co-owners promised a new training ground, and it seems as if the Magpies will be getting one.

Back in February, Staveley and Ghodoussi spoke to The Athletic about their plans for Newcastle – there were quite a few, to say the least.

One of their ideas was to improve the training ground, which, with all due respect, looks like a school building at the moment rather than a Premier League facility.

Ghodoussi said: “That will probably take three years, maybe a little bit more.”

Now, work has begun to improve things for Eddie Howe and the players in training, as you can see below.

In our view, this should make a big difference. Aside from improving day-to-day life for Newcastle’s players, a new training ground could also be a significant factor in attracting big-name signings to Tyneside.

What else has happened at Newcastle?

Putting aside eye-catching deals for the likes of Bruno Guimaraes, Newcastle have also improved under Staveley and Ghodoussi in other ways.

Dan Ashworth was pinched from Brighton to become the new Director of Football on Tyneside, a move which should be transformative for the Magpies.

Furthermore, the pair have decided to move Alan Shearer’s statue closer to St James’ Park, while they also reintroduced Shearer’s bar, which Mike Ashley decided to rename to Nine Bar.

Additionally, the tacky Sports Direct branding has now been removed from St James’ Park – behind the scenes, plenty of work is being done to remove the memories of Ashley.

They may have only arrived as recently as October, but Staveley and Ghodoussi are certainly making their mark on Newcastle.
