Arsenal supporters won’t have been disappointed to see Matteo Guendouzi on the losing side today.

The former Gunners’ midfielder could’ve landed himself a World Cup winner’s medal this evening, but Les Bleus lost a thrilling final to Argentina on penalties in Qatar.

Guendouzi, who left Arsenal on a permanent basis last summer, managed 79 minutes in the competition overall and therefore would’ve earned a victor’s medal.

The 23-year-old isn’t the most popular of players among the North Londoners’ fanbase due to the perceived attitude problem which resulted in Mikel Arteta washing his hands with him entirely.

After the game, Guendouzi cut a disappointed figure as he trudged past the World Cup trophy, daring to stare at it at one point.

Still only 23, the Marseille midfielder is likely to get a couple more chances to win the competition.

And with someone like Kylian Mbappe as a teammate, well it’s entirely possible that Les Bleus will go one better four years from now.

Frighteningly, the Paris Saint-Germain attacker will only be at his peek then and judging by his hat-trick in this final, he’s going to get substantially better between now and 2026.

Overall it was disappointment for the former Arsenal midfielder but, with Mbappe on your team, anything is possible next time around.
