New Philadelphia 76ers GM Mike Gansey admits he thinks LeBron James is the GOAT amid their free agency pursuit of the 41-year-old star.

LeBron will pick the destination where he can prioritize happiness and winning basketball next season. The 76ers are making it clear they view their franchise as the best landing spot.

From Bob Myers going to Rich Paul’s (LeBron’s agent) podcast to formally pitch why LeBron should join the 76ers, to now, where GM Gansey has made a tall claim about the GOAT debate.

LeBron James called the best player of all time by new 76ers GM

In an interview with The Athletic, GM Gansey discussed the team’s pursuit of LeBron in detail, beginning after their acquisition of Jaylen Brown was complete.

“We’ve had conversations with Rich since the Jaylen trade. LeBron and his camp have kept quiet, and there has been speculation for different teams. But we’d obviously love to have LeBron. I respect the heck out of him.”

Gansey would then call LeBron the best player of all time while understanding the delay in his decision due to it being a major personal move for the 41-year-old all-time leading scorer as well.

“In my opinion, he’s the best player of all time. I think his decision is dragging out because he has a lot of good options, and he wants to figure it out. He would obviously add a lot to our team. But at the end of the day, I know he’s going to make the right decision for him and his family.”

Whether or not James is the greatest player of all time over Michael Jordan is a different argument, but Gansey might genuinely believe that statement, given his pre-existing ties with LeBron.

Gansey and LeBron emerged as elite Ohio basketball players simultaneously, with Gansey being part of the Cavaliers front office during LeBron’s last stint with the team.

He doesn’t need to publicly massage LeBron’s ego, so it’s likely he’s sharing his true feelings on the debate while letting Philly’s impressive roster and other pitches to Rich Paul do the talking for him.
