Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil has struggled for form recently, especially in the big games.

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville explained how Arsenal need to get rid of Mesut Ozil, if they are to win the Premier League title in the foreseeable future, as quoted by the Metro.

The 28-year-old has had to endure heavy criticism of late, with pundits and fans alike accusing the German of failing to put in a shift, especially when his side have needed him most in the big games.

He has also had a far less productive season for the Gunners in comparison to last year’s efforts, registering just four assists in 21 Premier League outings, 15 fewer than his tally last term.

And Neville was highly critical of Ozil, suggesting that he would be the first player he would take out of the Arsenal side, as quoted by the Metro:

“The first person I’d take out of the team would be Mesut Ozil. You cannot win a league title with him in the team, playing like he has done in the big games since he’s come to the Premier League. You just can’t.”

The German international has been with Arsenal since the summer of 2013, after making his £42.5 million move from Real Madrid, and is currently deep in negotiations with club officials over the possibility of signing a new deal.

And with just 16 months left to run on his current contract, something will have to give one way or the other, whether that means him committing his future to Arsenal, or leaving in the summer.
