PGA Tour golfer Michael Kim had a funny moment during his round at the Sony Open that showed how easily sports worlds can collide.
The 32-year-old, known for his light-hearted presence on social media, shared a story from late in his third round that caught the attention of many golf fans online.
The mix-up happened on Sunday as Kim was finishing his round in Honolulu, with spectators nearby keeping an eye on both the golf and the NFL playoffs.
What sounded like support for one of Kim’s best shots of the day turned out to have a completely different source.
Michael Kim shares hilarious mix-up with Broncos fans
Kim explained the situation on social media after realising that a loud reaction near the 16th green was not quite what he thought it was.
“Having a long day…. I hit my second shot on 16, a really nice wedge shot to four feet,” he said on X.
“As my ball stops, the tent next to the green cheers loudly! I’m like, wow, really appreciate their support today. It was from the Denver touchdown to get them ahead with a minute left.”

The timing of the moment was perfect, with fans inside a hospitality tent reacting to the Denver Broncos’ go-ahead touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional Round.
Kim’s tweet was met with amusement from followers, who praised his good humour and ability to laugh at himself.
Broncos’ playoff run captures attention beyond the NFL
The Broncos’ 33–30 overtime win over Buffalo sent them to the AFC Championship Game for the first time in nearly a decade.
Their victory sparked celebrations across the country – and, as Kim found out, even halfway across the Pacific.
Denver’s postseason run has become one of the stories of the NFL season, drawing support from across the sporting world, including minority owner Lewis Hamilton.
For Kim, the moment provided a bit of comic relief in the middle of his round – a reminder that sometimes, cheers on the course aren’t always about golf.
