Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to react after hearing what Pep Guardiola said about the Gunners ahead of next season.

Speaking to BT Sport, the Manchester City boss said: “I love the fact that nothing is for granted. In two or three weeks I said ‘oh my god, next season’ – Liverpool is back, United is stronger every season and Arsenal is making a step forward and they will invest.”

Now, some Arsenal fans have been sparked into a discussion following these comments, due to Mikel Arteta’s relationship with Guardiola.

Of course, the Gunners boss was Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium for a few seasons.

One fan below suggested that Arteta and the ex-Barcelona boss are in constant contact with each other, so he may have been informed about Arsenal’s transfer plans.

In our view, that seems unlikely. While Arteta and Guardiola are friends, they are also Premier League rivals now, so recruitment plans were surely not exchanged.

Nevertheless, Guardiola’s comments have still left some Arsenal fans excited down below.

One supporter said his comments were ‘pretty significant’ while another suggested that he knows something the Emirates Stadium faithful don’t.

Arsenal simply have to spend big this summer

Whatever the truth is, there’s simply no denying that Arsenal need to invest – it is vital that they do.

For example, Roma are believed to be seriously interested in signing Granit Xhaka. If that move materialised, the north Londoners would be seriously lacking depth in midfield.

Elsewhere, Arteta could do with a new right-back and goalkeeper, while an out-and-out No.9 also wouldn’t go amiss.

Hopefully, the money is there for Arsenal to spend.

If it isn’t, supporters should probably expect another mediocre campaign like the one just gone.

In the meantime, let’s see what the Arsenal fans on Twitter had to say about Guardiola’s comments…
