These rumours about Granit Xhaka leaving Arsenal have been rapidly accelerating in recent days.
Gazetta Italia reported this morning that the Arsenal midfielder that personally told Jose Mourinho’s Roma that he wants a move to the Italian capital.
The Gunners spent £35 milllion on the player in 2016 but the reported fee will be £20 million.
And now a report from Xhaka’s native Switzerland indicates that it could be finalised within the next fortnight.
The Swiss kick off their Euro 2020 campaign against Wales on June 12 and Blick has reported that the 28-year-old’s exit from Arsenal may be sealed before then.
Will Xhaka be missed?
Well, it’s no secret that he’s had his run-ins with Arsenal fans down the years.
But Xhaka has actually blossomed into a key player for the North Londoners under Mikel Arteta, who labelled him ‘phenomenal‘ as recently as January.
After all, Xhaka was a first-team regular under Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery, who has just won his fourth Europa League title.
Quite a lot of Arsenal fans don’t rate the former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, but the fact that he’s been popular with his last three managers indicates that he does, in fact, serve a very important purpose.
Xhaka, who earns £100,000 per week at the Emirates, will be missed by Arteta and he and Edu will certainly need to replace him.
