Paul Scholes has backed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool to secure a top-four finish this season, which would be bad news for the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.
The Manchester United legend thinks Liverpool are the ‘best team’ of those fighting for that all-important Champions League spot.
On Sunday, the Reds stuck their chest out and showcased to the footballing world that they are still here.

Not only did they beat Manchester United, but it was utter humiliation because that 7-0 scoreline will go down in the history books as something that will never be forgotten.
But whilst Klopp’s side find their mojo at the right time, Spurs continue to falter and Eddie Howe’s men have just hit their own poor run of form.
Nonetheless, with the crunch moments of the season here, Paul Scholes was asked about the race for those Champions League spots and he backed Liverpool, as he told Premier League Productions (05/03/23 at 7:25 pm).
“Yes, they (Liverpool) have to be (favourites for top four),” Scholes. “I think they are the best team. They have had their issues this year with changing players around.
“We said before the game (7-0). We weren’t really sure where the problem was with Liverpool. There seemed to have problems in every area of the pitch, other than the goalkeeper.
“What’s that? Their fifth clean sheet (on the bounce). It looks like they have got it tied up at the back. The quality of player they have in midfield and going forward, then you expect them to score goals.”

WHO NEEDS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MORE?
Newcastle will probably sit down first for this one because they are ahead of their project, at this moment in time, and even if they get Europa League, then that is big progression.
But it could be argued that Spurs need that fourth spot more than Liverpool because of their current situation.
There is talk that Antonio Conte could leave the club at the end of the season, and added to that, Harry Kane’s contract expires in less than 18 months.
If Spurs don’t secure Champions League football, then surely he is out of the door, whilst Liverpool are equally desperate, they don’t have such issues.
