Paul Robinson said on Racing Post that he thinks that Joe Rodon will start ahead of Davinson Sanchez for Tottenham Hotspur against Chelsea on Sunday evening.

The former Tottenham goalkeeper believes that head coach Jose Mourinho prefers Rodon to fellow central defender Sanchez, who joined the North London club back in the summer of 2017 when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge.

Robinson has pointed out that Colombia international centre-back Sanchez was left out of Spurs’ Premier League matchday squads against West Bromwich Albion and Manchester City.

Toby Alderweireld is injured at the moment, and Robinson believes that Rodon will start alongside Eric Dier in central defence against Chelsea away from home at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League on Sunday evening.

Robinson said on Racing Post: “They invested in the window, Joe Rodon, young lad, Welsh defender, and it’s now time for him to step up.

“Davinson Sanchez has been left out of last two squads, which obviously means that Jose thinks that Rodon is a better defender than him or he is ahead of him in the pecking order. So it looks like it could be Rodon and Eric Dier as a centre-back partnership.”

Joe Rodon to start against Chelsea?

According to The Daily Mail, Rodon will start for Tottenham against Chelsea.

It is going to be a big game for the 23-year-old Wales international centre-back, who moved to Spurs from Swansea City in the summer of 2020 and has played just 10 minutes in the Premier League so far this season, according to WhoScored.
