West Ham United are the main candidates to sign Paul Onuachu, according to Voetbal Primeur, despite the striker being keen on a move to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
What’s the story?
Voetbal Primeur are reporting that West Ham are keen on signing Onuachu from Genk in the summer transfer window.
The Hammers are reportedly the ‘main candidate’ and are still in talks to sign the Nigeria international striker.
Genk are willing to sell, but the Belgian outfit want a club-record transfer fee for the striker.
As for Onuachu, the 27-year-old wants to move to the Premier League, but he has returned to pre-season training with Genk.

Arsenal desire
West Ham may be the main candidates to sign Onuachu and are still in talks, but the Nigeria international striker clearly wants to move to their London and Premier League rivals Arsenal.
How do we know that?
Because Onuachu and one of his agents have publicly said so.

The striker suggested in April, as quoted in Sporza, that he “really” likes Arsenal and loves watching them play.
One of the Nigerian striker’s agent told Own Goal Nigeria earlier this month that “it will be nice if Arsenal want him”, adding that he is a boyhood fan of the Gunners.
The Athletic have actually reported this month that Arsenal want the striker, who is claimed to be valued at £20 million by Genk.
Good signing for West Ham?
Arsenal are not exactly in desperate need for a striker right now, West Ham are.
The Hammers have not replaced Sebastien Haller following his move to Ajax.
Manager David Moyes simply cannot rely on Michail Antonio to play upfront.
Remember, the Hammers also have Europa League football next season.
Onuachu scored 35 goals in all competitions last season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk, which indicates that he could be a good signing for West Ham.
