Everton continue to pursue a deal for Swansea star Gylfi Sigurdsson.
Swansea City boss Paul Clement has told Wales Online that he would be open to a part-exchange deal with Everton for playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The Swans have been boosted by additions such as Roque Mesa and Tammy Abraham this summer, but their preparations for the new Premier League season have been disrupted by speculation surrounding Sigurdsson’s future.
Sigurdsson, 27, continued to prove that he is one of the Premier League’s top playmakers with a superb campaign last season, notching an impressive nine goals and 13 assists to help Swansea avoid relegation.
Three years on from leaving Tottenham to rejoin Swansea, Sigurdsson is now being strongly linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium, with Everton pursuing his signature.
As noted by The Mirror, Everton have failed with £40million and £45million offers to sign Sigurdsson, but are now ready to offer up defender Callum Connolly in a part-exchange deal.
Fans aren’t too keen on letting a young talent like Connolly leave the club, but Swansea boss Paul Clement has now admitted that Swansea would be open to the right part-exchange deal for Sigurdsson.
Clement has told Wales Online that Sigurdsson won’t face Sampdoria in a pre-season friendly this weekend, with talks ongoing over his future ahead of that game.
Clement added that whilst he is open to a part-exchange deal, he would like a resolution by the end of the day just so Swansea know one way or the other whether Sigurdsson is heading to Everton or staying in South Wales.
“He will not play against Sampdoria on Saturday,” said Clement. “Talks are still going on and hopefully we are going to get some news in the next couple of days. The deal needs to be the best for all parties involved, we have got a very, very important season coming up. We know what happened last season if you don’t make a good start and we don’t want that to happen again. We want to make a good start and everyone wants to know what our squad is going to be going onto the first game of the season.”
“Assuming it is the right player coming our way and it is someone we are interested in and fills a need in our squad. Those deals will always have potential. I hope it is done today, either way, whether that is selling or not, but we need a quick resolution to the situation.”
