Luka Modric thinks Liverpool ‘panicked’ after Real Madrid had a goal disallowed during their Champions League final in Paris, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+.

The legendary midfielder admitted that Liverpool did well in the first half of their heavyweight clash on Europe’s biggest stage, including ‘pressing high’ up the pitch.

But, just before the break, Karim Benzema controversially saw a goal ruled out for offside and that little bit of momentum carried its way into the second half for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Vinicius Junior, who was talked up before the game as one of Madrid’s biggest threats, scored the goal of his lifetime.

That ended up being the difference on a night of chaos and delays in France’s capital, as Modric shared his brutally honest thoughts on Liverpool.

“In the first half, I think we defend too much,” said Modric. “We didn’t have too much of the ball.

“Liverpool were pressing high and they did well. But we stayed calm and didn’t panic.

“In the second half, we played much better and had more possession – and then we scored the goal.

“I think, from that disallowed goal, we started believing more and I think, for Liverpool, they panicked and they weren’t that comfortable anymore.”

MODRIC HAS MORE CL’S THAN MANCHESTER UNITED

That’s five Champions League medals to Modric’s name and more than what Manchester United have achieved in their entire history.

It’s a pretty remarkable achievement from the 36-year-old, who is showing that age is no number when playing in one of the most highly-pressured roles in football.

From that quite sublime assist against Chelsea to how he helped manage the game in the second half against Liverpool.

Modric has proved once again why he is one of the greatest players to have graced the European stage.
