The opening title fight of 2026 is expected to lay the groundwork for an even bigger event later in the year.
There has been some debate around Justin Gaethje’s matchup with Paddy Pimblett for the interim lightweight belt, scheduled for this Saturday night in Las Vegas.
It’s hard to dispute that it’s a meeting between two of the division’s most recognisable figures, and one that should deliver plenty of excitement.
Ilia Topuria recently confirmed his intentions, stating that he’ll face whoever comes out on top this weekend, which adds even more significance to the bout.
Topuria naturally became a topic of conversation during the press conference held before the promotion’s debut event on Paramount+.

There was no shortage of words between the two, as Gaethje took a jab at Pimblett during their face-off in Las Vegas.
While Gaethje is still interested in running back some previous matchups, Pimblett has long made it clear that Topuria is the name he’s most eager to share the cage with next.
Pimblett, for his part, hasn’t shied away from the idea. He recently mentioned June or July as potential dates for a showdown with Topuria. During the press event, he was asked if he had any words for his rival.
“Be ready, you sausage,” Pimblett responded.

In a bit of fight week promo footage, Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett appeared to be the same height, thanks to the Brit’s stance.
But that changed when they met again in person at the Las Vegas press conference.
Gaethje glanced down at Pimblett’s shoes as he approached, jokingly trying to figure out what was different this time around.
The pair then exchanged a few lighthearted comments about how social media had been picking apart Pimblett’s posture.
