Could Arsenal re-sign Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in January?
There’s no speculation about it happening but, as the transfer window comes into its final furlong, don’t rule out the rumour mill doing its thing.
Arsenal need a new midfielder and the Liverpool midfielder needs a new club.
It isn’t that simple but, then again, it might be.
According to The Mail, Brighton are interested in bringing the former Gunners star – a £40 million sale by Arsene Wenger in 2017 [Guardian] – to The Amex.

That’s because the England international is out of contract next summer and rather than lose him for free, Liverpool could cash in their chips regarding Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Interestingly, Mikel Arteta is also on record as saying that Arsenal might be in the market for a midfield, amid doubt over Mohamed Elneny getting back to full fitness this season.
Could Arteta go for Oxlade-Chamberlain?
Well, it’s possible.
When he captained Arsenal, the Spaniard said of his then-teammate, via News24: “[The goal was] unbelievable, but Alex can do that every week if he wants to. He’s a terrific player, one of the best talents I’ve seen, and he’s got the world open for what he wants to do. It’s up to him.”
This was seven-and-a-half years ago and although Oxlade-Chamberlain arguably hasn’t fulfilled the potential that Arteta referenced above, he’s still 29 and in the prime of his career.
Oxlade-Chamberlain returning to Arsenal has legs, particularly if he hasn’t found a new club within a few days, and if Arteta hasn’t signed anyone else to replace Elneny.
