West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper and reported West Ham United target Sam Johnstone has turned down the chance to join Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, according to 90min.
90min have reported that Tottenham held talks with Johnstone, who is out of contract at Championship club West Brom this summer.
The 29-year-old wants to go elsewhere and made it clear to Tottenham, who are now on the verge of signing Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster on a free transfer instead, according to the report.
This will come as a boost to West Ham, who are also keen on signing Johnstone, described as “outstanding” by former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker on Twitter in March 2021.
The Athletic reported this week that West Ham are keen on the 29-year-old and are leading the race for his signature.

Sam Johnstone’s Tottenham decision boost for West Ham
In our opinion, Sam Johnstone turning down Tottenham Hotspur is a boost to West Ham United’s chances of signing him.
The 29-year-old has been a regular at West Brom, and moving to Tottenham would have seen him play second fiddle to Hugo Lloris.
Now, we know that Łukasz Fabiański is the number one goalkeeper at West Ham.
It will be interesting to see if West Ham are able to convince Johnstone to move to London Stadium and fight for his place in the first team.
