Chris Sutton has labelled Leeds United transfer target Ryan Kent as an ‘outstanding’ player and admitted that he ‘fears’ the Rangers star when he plays against Celtic, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
The former striker did point out that when in Rangers colours, Kent’s numbers aren’t what they should be given how much of a ‘handful’ he can be to opposing players.
The summer transfer window will slam shut on Thursday night and Kent could be one of the talking points, even if Rangers don’t want him to go anywhere.
There is talk of Dan James possibly heading for the Elland Road exit door, if that happens then it seems as though the Whites will target Kent.
The 25-year-old came through the ranks at Liverpool, before making a name for himself in Rangers colours, including winning the Scottish Premiership title.
The first Old Firm derby of the new Premiership season takes place at the weekend, so will Kent be in Glasgow? Well, if he is then Sutton fears he can do some damage.
“I think Ryan Kent is an outstanding player,” said Sutton. “He is such a handful.
“But if you look at his numbers, the assists and goals. They aren’t there.
“However, every time I watch him. Rangers v Celtic, then he is the one I fear the most from Celtic’s point of view.”
SHOULD KENT LEAVE RANGERS?
Whilst the Premier League is a much higher stage than Scotland’s top-tier, Leeds might still have their work cut out signing the player.
Yes, money talks and that’s one advantage the Yorkshire side have on the Gers.
But it also needs to be remembered that Rangers are now in the Champions League, so should Kent leave that for just Premier League football?
Perhaps not because that is the biggest stage of domestic football, plus he also needs to remember that his stock can rise even further by doing the business in the Champions League alone.
