Stefan Backs has stated Bayern Munich ace Alexander Nubel will play at Monaco next term without an ‘out of the ordinary’ shift, amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur in a transfer.
Nubel joined Monaco on loan last summer in a two-year deal after failing to establish his presence in Bavaria. The goalkeeper joined Der FCB in 2020 at the end of his contract with Schalke. But he only made four appearances in all competitions as Manuel Neuer’s backup.
Suggestions have since emerged that Nubel’s form in Ligue 1 could now see him return to the Allianz Arena early. But Backs has told Sky Germany that there are currently no plans to see his client head back, and walk away from the chance to play regularly and develop.

Bayern Munich are assessing their goalkeeper ranks with Sven Ulreich far from guaranteed another season as Neuer’s backup. No talks have yet occurred over a new contract for the 33-year-old. So, he has asked sports director Hasan Salihamidzic for a decision in March.
Salihamidzic, however, is exploring alternatives like Stefan Ortega of Arminia Bielefeld as he is out of contract this summer. Kicker also reported last month that Nubel could return to Bayern Munich from his Monaco loan early, or head elsewhere with Tottenham keen.
Agent hints Tottenham need ‘out of the ordinary’ shift to sign Nubel from Bayern
Kicker claimed Bayern Munich were mulling terminating Nubel’s loan with Monaco to send the Tottenham transfer target somewhere he would play Champions League football next term. But Backs has stated his client will remain in the Principality without a surprise shift.
“If nothing out of the ordinary happens, Alexander will play at AS Monaco in the coming season,” Backs said. “There are no plans to return to Munich early. Alex plays regularly in Monaco and can develop there.”

Nubel has displayed with Monaco the potential he showed with Schalke to seal his transfer to Bayern Munich in 2020. The 25-year-old has kept 11 clean sheets in 37 games across all competitions to 39 goals conceded. His eight clean sheets in Ligue 1 are the fourth-most.
