German magazine Kicker report that Tottenham remain interested in signing Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nubel, ahead of the summer window. The German is currently impressing on loan at AS Monaco.
Nubel, 25, joined Bayern Munich on a five-year from Schalke in the summer of 2020 – after clocking up 16 clean sheets in 53 games. But he managed just four outings as Manuel Neuer’s back-up in 2020-21.
Since then, he has gone on loan to Monaco – a deal that will keep him with Niko Kovac’s side until the summer of 2023. But that loan might be cancelled, depending on Manuel Neuer’s future. Spurs are also keen.
Nubel has done well at Monaco, conceding just 32 goals in 32 – keeping 10 clean sheets. German newspaper Bild reported towards the end of January that Tottenham were interested – and that interest has now remained.
Spurs have handed Hugo Lloris a contract until the summer of 2024 – and the club captain is likely to remain no.1 until then. Pierluigi Gollini is on loan with an option to buy, but the feeling is he will not sign permanently.
Tottenham eye Nubel: Chances of getting German seem unlikely
That is, even with Kicker reporting that Bayern would be open to cancelling Nubel’s loan at Monaco at the halfway stage and shipping him off to a side where he can play Champions League football on a regular basis.
Neuer is likely to remain at Bayern, meaning Nubel would rather remain on loan. Tottenham are unlikely to get top four after losses to Wolves and Southampton. Even then, he would surely be second-choice to Lloris.
A good goalkeeper with plenty of potential given he is still young for a shot-stopper. But until Spurs wave goodbye to Lloris, it is unlikely Nubel will end up at Spurs – even though they may have to replace Gollini in the summer.
