Marcelo Bielsa admitted that Crysencio Summerville asked to leave Leeds United in the January window – but his post-match actions on Monday night show he remains committed to the Elland Road club, after staying.

Summerville, 20, was involved in all three goals as Leeds United’s Under-23 side eased past Liverpool’s second string to secure a crucial three points. The win sees Mark Jackson’s side climb into 11th, of a 14-team division.

The ex-Feyenoord man’s speed and trickery saw him have a shot saved, the rebound finished by Jack Jenkins. He then won two penalties in the last 10 minutes, scoring the first himself. Max Dean got the second.

That form comes after Bielsa admitted in his latest press conference that Summerville wanted to leave. Hamburg were linked, and clubs from the Netherlands, but Leeds chose to keep him at Elland Road in January.

Leeds Live reporter Joe Donnohue shared what Summerville did after his stunning performance for the Whites – applauding fans, he signed autographs and gave a lucky fan his shirt before running down the tunnel.

Summerville shows Leeds loyalty: Talent desperately needs new deal

Yes, the attitude of Summerville is something to be questioned. The speed machine was involved in behind-the-scenes fights at Feyenoord. He joined, Leeds and there has been odd occasion he has thrown his toys out the pram.

Frustration at not being allowed to take a penalty last season when Sam Greenwood did, did not go down well. Now, asking to leave, has been met with a questionable reaction. But it should be overlooked, given his talent.

Summerville is a class above Under-23 football. Easily good enough for the senior side. He probably does deserve more game time than he has got, just eight senior appearances this season. He has a contract until June 2023.

That contractual situation might see Summerville’s head turned and with the summer approaching, Leeds have got to tie him down. That is, especially after his performance and post-match actions on Monday.
