Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has said that U-23 winger Crysencio Summerville asked to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Speaking to the press via Leeds Live, the Argentine coach revealed that the Dutch youngster requested to leave Leeds last month. Summerville was linked with numerous clubs over January on loan, however, no deal ever materialised for the attacker.
Leeds signed Summerville in 2020 from Feyenoord after impressing with Dutch side ADO Den Haag in the 2019/20 season. And since joining the Yorkshire side, the attacker has impressed on the training pitch.
Jamie Shackleton hailed the youngster as a ‘nightmare’ in training as per the Yorkshire Evening Post. Yet despite surviving and impressing in Bielsa’s famed ‘murderball’ sessions, first-team opportunities have been rare for Summerville.
The winger has made eight appearances this season, only one of which was a start, that coming in the League Cup against Fulham. And now, according to Bielsa, Summerville has requested to leave Leeds.
The Premier League manager said: “He spoke with me and he told me that he wanted to leave. I told him there wasn’t any problem with him leaving. Any player who tells me they want to leave, I would answer ‘no problem’.”
Leeds should have let Summerville leave on loan in January

With Summerville’s contract expiring in 2023, time is running out for the Dutch youngster to impress the club and to win a deal with the Whites. Yet with the winger failing to win a loan move in January, there’s a strong chance that the attacker could now leave for good in the summer.
Indeed, Leeds made a mistake failing to send Summerville out on loan in January. And with the winger’s future now even murkier than ever, there could be a chance that the 20-year-old leaves Elland Road for good in the summer.
