Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move to sign West Ham United attacker Jarrod Bowen for some time now – a player Jurgen Klopp has not hid his admiration of. Now, the Reds have the perfect chance to get him.
Bowen, 25, has been in stunning form for the Hammers this season – having a hand in 23 goals in 39 league and cup appearances. He has scored 12, and created 11 – but is expected to miss the next couple of games with an injury.
Discussing Bowen recently, Klopp is quoted by The Mirror in awe of Bowen – revelling in the “player he has become”, and that he is “unbelievable”. The Echo report West Ham’s £22m (Guardian) signing is a target for Liverpool.
If Liverpool are still intent on signing a player that is likely to get an England call-up this month – then they have just been afforded the perfect chance to nab his signature, and it comes in the form of Joe Gomez.
Why Gomez can help Liverpool sign Bowen from West Ham…
Gomez is struggling for game time at Liverpool. After injury, he has returned to the fold, but as Liverpool’s fourth-choice centre-back – following the addition of Ibrahima Konate and the form of Joel Matip.
90Min report he wants to leave Liverpool in the summer with Gareth Southgate ‘desperate’ to see him join a club where he is playing regularly. More than half of the Premier League are said to be keen on Gomez.
Tottenham, Newcastle and Leicester are among those interested – as are West Ham. So, with Gomez looking to go, Liverpool likely to be open to offers and wanting to sign Bowen – a player-plus-cash deal could arrise.
Bowen is likely to be rated at more than double of the £22million West Ham spent to get him. Gomez’s value could be similar to what West Ham signed Bowen for. So, perhaps, £25million and Gomez would suit all parties.
