Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that sources have told him that Jarrod Bowen’s injury is not as serious as first thought – but that the West Ham ace is likely to miss one or two games. The Hammers face Sevilla on Thursday.
Bowen, 25, has been in stunning form for the Hammers this season – clocking up 23 goal involvements in 39 games. He has scored 12 times himself, and laid on an impressive 11 assists for David Moyes’ side.
The attacker, who has been linked with a potential England call-up at the end of the month, suffered a heel injury last time out after a tackle from Liverpool’s Andy Robertson. West Ham have confirmed it is not significant.
Now, reporter Jones has told GMS that he has been informed that the ex-Hull City winger might only miss one or two games. However, they come in the form of Thursday’s clash with Sevilla – and then Aston Villa on Sunday.
“The Bowen injury isn’t significant from what I’m told, but even missing him for one or two games this season hampers them massively because they don’t have the depth in the squad, and we knew that,” Jones said.
Jones on Bowen injuru: Even two games is a massive West Ham blow
The issue West Ham have, is a lack of strength in depth. They do have a number of options in the final third – Pablo Fornals, Said Benrahma, Nikola Vlasic, Manuel Lanzini. But Bowen trumps them all, after this season.
Sevilla promised to be a crucial clash for the Hammers, the chance to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Europa League. They will already be without Vladimir Coufal, Andriy Yarmolenko and Angelo Ogbonna.
They could also be missing Declan Rice, due to illness – having missed Saturday’s outing against Liverpool. To lose Rice, and Bowen, would be enormously bad for the London outfit. A nervous wait, for fans.
