The agent of Robin Gosens has told Football Italia why his client has chosen to turn down a move to Newcastle and join Inter. The German is said to have agreed Newcastle terms, but his agent has given a 12-word response.
Gosens, 27, is said to be on the verge of a move to Inter Milan with a £22million move agreed between the two sides. An initial fee of £18.5million will be paid to Atalanta – plus £3.5million in add-ons (FI).
That is, after reports earlier this month suggested Newcastle had agreed personal terms with the German ace. Newcastle are certainly after a left-back, with Matt Targett, Mitchel Bakker and plenty more being linked.
Many will remember just how good Gosens was back in Euro 2020, scoring against Portugal in a 4-2 win. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s long-standing left-back issue remains. His agent commented on Wednesday.
“Because it’s Inter,” Paolo Busardò told Football Italia. “We hope it can be the right solution for him.” Gosens is expected to complete a medical and personal terms at Inter on Thursday, ahead of a move.
Gosens would have solved long-term Newcastle issue at left-back
The Toon have tried to solve it on numerous occasions. Paul Dummett was good in the Championship, but the Premier League has proven a step too far. Matt Ritchie, a right-footed winger, has been often used on the left.
Kenedy was brought in from Chelsea, but ended up playing further forward. Jetro Willems was excellent, but suffered a long-term knee injury and his loan did not become permanent. Danny Rose was mediocre.
Jamal Lewis was brought in for £15million but he is yet to prove his transfer fee. So, the issue remains and Gosens would have solved it for the bargain price of £22million. Missing out on the German is a big, big blow.
