According to The Sun, Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta wants to sign a new left-back so that he can deploy Bukayo Saka further forward.
It has been reported by the British tabloid that Arsenal want to sign left-back Nicolas Tagliafico from Ajax in a £20 million deal in the summer transfer window.
Arteta’s reported plan is to move Saka further forward on the pitch, with the 18-year-old having been deployed mainly as a left-back this season.
The England Under-19 international is a very versatile footballer, but he is at his best as a winger.
Saka is a brilliant crosser of the ball, with Arsenal legend Martin Keown comparing him to Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale on BT Sport 2 (7:51pm, December 12, 2019) (click here to read more).
The 18-year-old has scored two goals and provided five assists in the Europa League, and has provided three assists in the Premier League for the Gunners so far this season, according to WhoScored.
Playing further forward will allow Saka to express himself more without having to worry about defensive responsibility.
With Kieran Tierney, signed from Celtic in the summer of 2019, already at the club, Saka will be free to concentre playing as a left-winger instead of having to operate as a left-back if the Gunners land Tagliafico this summer.
The youngster will flourish if played to his strength, and Arsenal head coach Arteta is reportedly planning to do just that, which should please and delight Saka.
