Liverpool fans were left impressed by Arnaut Danjuma’s performance in the Champions League for Villarreal on Wednesday night, despite their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

With an hour left on the clock, the Spanish side thought they were going to inflict a third defeat in a row for Man United on home soil in all competitions.

However, Alex Telles and Cristiano Ronaldo broke Villarreal’s hearts, but it doesn’t hide away from the fact that they put up a very spirited and high-quality performance.

Given the rumours that Liverpool were keen to sign Danjuma in the summer, as reported by Marca in August, their fans had an eagle-eye on the quick-footed forward.

The 24-year-old provided the assist for the opening goal when his bursting run down the left-hand side was too quick to handle for Diogo Dalot and his first-time ball across the penalty area was laid on a plate for Paco Alcacer to slot home.

In truth, well before that, Danjuma should have got on the scoresheet, as well as Alcacer.

But, David de Gea, in between the sticks, had other ideas and was probably Man of the Match against the Europa League champions.

Nonetheless, the flying Dutchman scored 15 goals and supplied seven assists for Championship side Bournemouth last season, from the left flank, and those performances earned him a move to Spain’s top-tier.

After those summer links, Dutch outlet, Voetbal International, have now suggested that Liverpool haven’t given up on signing him.

And, if that’s the case, then it seems as though the supporters will be more than happy to have him on board.
