Leeds United youngster Ryan Edmondson is in a great position to capitalise amid a worrying start to pre-season for the club’s main strikers.

Patrick Bamford appears to be struggling for form and confidence, failing to net in his three pre-season appearances.

Kemar Roofe picked up an injury in the win over Western Sydney Wanderers and was pictured in a leg brace after the match.

Roofe should still be fit for the start of the season, but it is a stark reminder of the fact he missed several weeks of action in two stints last season, due to injury, along with their play-off semi-final second leg loss.

So far there are no signs Leeds are looking to add a third striker, even though the situation suggests they may need one.

That puts Edmondson in a good position to step up, and he looks like he is capable of doing so.

Last week Edmondson netted a hat-trick for Leeds in a more low key pre-season game against Tadcaster.

It was a bright start for the 18-year-old, who finished as top scorer for the under-23s last season, and made his White debut at just 16.

Edmondson is well built, and like former England international Wayne Rooney, his physical attributes suggest he could instantly adapt to senior football. He clearly has the goalscoring touch already.

Leeds need Edmondson to come in and raise the bar, and start putting pressure on Bamford to perform, and may be even overtake him in the pecking order.

The way pre-season has been shaping up for him is working to his advantage. Leeds need to give him a bigger opportunity over the next fortnight to really prove himself as a go-to option for Marcelo Bielsa.
