Nuno Espirito Santo is in as Tottenham Hotspur manager having looked set for Everton… so what next for Matheus Nunes?

Nuno left Wolves at the end of last season and first looked close to joining Crystal Palace before then becoming the favourite for the Everton job.

That move didn’t happen either, but Tottenham moved in to make him their new boss, ironically replacing his former Porto boss in Jose Mourinho.

Nuno heading to Tottenham instead of Everton seems to have scuppered one potential transfer as Record claim Matheus Nunes was heading to Everton if Nuno landed the job.

The move to Everton now appears to be over, leaving Sporting in limbo over his future – and the close ties with Nuno will raise questions about a move to Tottenham.

Nuno was seemingly set on the idea of bringing Nunes to Everton, with new Toffees boss Rafael Benitez seemingly not quite as enamoured by the idea.

If Nuno was that interested in signing Nunes at Everton, it would make sense for him to be keen on luring him to Tottenham too.

Tottenham do have the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, but with question marks over the likes of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko, another midfield addition seems likely.

Nunes is an exciting box-to-box talent, possessing the ability to drive through midfield with pace and skill, but he is still quite raw and hasn’t been a regular starter for Sporting just yet.

The Brazilian does have potential but will need some coaching up, which is seemingly what Nuno wanted to do at Everton.

Branded ‘too fast’ and ‘unbelievable’ by former Estoril teammate Goncalo Santos, Nunes should now be a name for Tottenham fans to keep an eye on given Nuno’s interest in recent weeks.
