Everton don’t have a new manager in place yet, but they could make a move to bring in Matheus Nunes anyway.

The Toffees were rocked when Carlo Ancelotti left the club earlier this month, heading back to Spain with Real Madrid.

Marcel Brands and Farhad Moshiri are yet to settle on a new boss, yet one new signing is still expected to come in.

Matheus Nunes set for Everton?

Portuguese newspaper Record reported last week that Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes was ‘very close’ to completing a move to Everton.

TVI24 claim that Nunes will join Everton for £17million, with only some final details needed on a deal.

The Brazilian helped Sporting win the Portuguese title last season, making 31 appearances in the league whilst notching three goals and two assists.

Goncalo Santos raves about Nunes

The Liverpool Echo have now spoken to Goncalo Santos, who played with Nunes at another Portuguese club, Estoril.

Santos claims that it’s ‘unbelievable’ when Nunes is in possession of the ball because he is too fast for other midfielders to catch him.

Santos noted that Nunes can drive you 30 yards up the field to his speed and dribbling, though he isn’t quite as physical as some Premier League midfielders.

“It’s unbelievable when he has the ball at his feet. Nobody can catch him; it’s impossible because he’s too fast,” said Santos.

“Matheus is a box-to-box player. He’s not so strong like midfielders in the Premier League but he’s very fast. He’s very good with the ball because he is a Brazilian bou. They know how to play with the ball.”

“If you are in the defensive phase and he gets the ball, he can run with it and fire the team 30 yards up the pitch because he is so good in possession,” he added.
