‘Open to criticism’: Jurgen Klopp warned about his possible actions after Mo Salah call

Ally McCoist says he can’t see Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool to take the vacant managerial role at Germany.

The Scotland legend says Jurgen Klopp, if he did decide to leave Liverpool, would ‘open himself to criticism’ because of what happened with Mohamed Salah in the summer, as he told talkSPORT (12/09/23 at 6:30 am).

The Egypt star was heavily linked with a transfer to the ever-growing league of Saudi Arabia, and despite £150 million seemingly being rejected by Liverpool, he stayed put.

Klopp was pretty vocal about how he had no worries about Salah leaving, as you would imagine the Liverpool manager played a key part in one of his top players staying and rejecting such a lucrative offer.

It’s understandable if your nation comes knocking with the offer to become coach, especially given that you will host Euro 2024 next summer, then it’s tempting.

And whilst Klopp is Germany’s dream capture after they booted out Hansi Flick, former striker McCoist says it just isn’t going to happen.

“No, I don’t. I absolutely don’t,” said McCoist. “I think he has got unfinished work at Liverpool. I think he is in the process of a rebuild.

“I think he is very happy there. Very content there. I think he will leave himself open to criticism as well if somebody like Salah stays and he goes. I think he is in a happy place.”

This has been a summer of rebuild for Liverpool, and you would think, during the coming transfer windows, more changes will be made.

But after winning the lot with the likes of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Fabinho, to name a few.

A new chapter has begun with Klopp’s first task to get the club back to the Champions League, with the hope that they can challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title along the way.
