This week marked the one-year anniversary of Jose Mourinho becoming Tottenham manager, but it also marked one year since Tottenham were being linked with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Indeed, this time last year, Spurs were being linked with a move for the legendary Swedish striker as his LA Galaxy contract came to an end, and despite his impeccable record throughout his career, a number of fans didn’t want to see him brought in.

You can understand why supporters had their reservations, after all, Ibrahimovic was 38 years old at the time, and most footballers are way past their best by that age.

However, as we should all know by now, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not a normal footballer.

The PSG legend is now 39 and he’s seemingly better than ever, netting eight goals in five Serie A appearances this season, while in the second half of last season he netted 10 in 18 for AC Milan in the league.

We all know what Ibrahimovic can do in the Premier League, he was an absolute star at Manchester United, and it doesn’t seem as though his powers have waned since.

Mourinho is quite clearly a big fan of his, working alongside him at United and Inter, and he even spoke about him this week, claiming that he still plays like a 20-year-old.

We all know how much Spurs missed Harry Kane when he was injured last season, they won just three of the 11 games he missed last term, but perhaps if they’d have signed Ibrahimovic in January, they wouldn’t have dropped the vital points that eventually cost them a spot in the top four.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and it’s now clear one year on that Tottenham should have taken a punt on Ibrahimovic as they could have had one of the best strikers in the world on a free transfer.
