What a year it has been for Jonathan David.

2021 was the year the Canadian really established himself as one of Europe’s top young talents, and it’s no surprise to hear that he’s attracted the attention of some of the continent’s biggest clubs.

One side that are reportedly keen on David are Arsenal, and that may be a move that appeals to the striker.

Indeed, this time last year, the attacker was speaking about how he’d dreamt of playing for the Gunners as a youngster.

What’s David said?

This time last year, David admitted that he dreamt of playing for Arsenal in his youth, and now the Gunners are reportedly after him.

“European clubs made me dream. I watched Barca a lot; Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal, with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira,” the Lille ace said.

“I might not have been ready in my head. But that was the only option, my goal from the start. I knew I had to make sacrifices.”

Makes more sense than ever

12 months on from these comments, a move to Arsenal makes more sense than ever for David.

The Gunners are in desperate need of a new striker after the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang and David is in the form of his life at Lille, netting 12 Ligue 1 goals already this term.

If the so-called ‘phenomenon’ still has the dream of playing for Arsenal at some point, then that dream may come true this summer. After all, the London club are still being credited with a strong interest in the forward.
