Speaking on his YouTube channel, Goal journalist Charles Watts has been chatting about Arsenal’s hunt for a new striker and Jonathan David.

The Gunners are desperate for offensive reinforcements this month. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is seemingly out of the picture at the Emirates, and after Alexandre Lacazette’s poor showing against Burnley, it’s fair to say the London club need a new number nine.

Dusan Vlahovic has been touted as a top target, but it seems as though be’s not too keen on the move, while the likes of Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have also been linked.

Jonathan David is another player of interest, and while Watts says that the Canadian is a player Arsenal are a fan of, he claims that they will not be leaving Lille this month, stating that he will depart the Ligue 1 club in the summer instead.

What’s been said about David?

Watts shared what he knows about David.

“There are other players that have been mentioned, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, we know Arsenal like him, but he’ll be tough to get in January. Jonathan David, we know Arsenal like him, but from what I understand, he won’t be leaving in January, he’ll be leaving in the summer,” Watts said.

Worth the wait?

Arsenal may be best off waiting until the summer to sign their long-term striker solution.

Yes, there is a top-four race to be won this season, but if a player like David will be available in the summer then Arsenal may be best served by acting patiently.

David seems to be a supreme talent, netting 12 goals in Ligue 1 already this term, and at the age of 22, he has so much room to improve.
