Jack Wilshere believes that Mikel Arteta is the right coach to take Arsenal forward despite a poor start to the season.
Speaking on the Athletic Football podcast, Wilshere surprisingly claimed that Arteta could be the man to lead Arsenal back to their past glories.
The Gunners have endured a terrible start to the season. Arsenal lost to both Brentford and Chelsea 2-0, with Manchester City up next for the side Wilshere is a hero at.
The north London side have also spent the most out of any Premier League team this window.
Arteta and Edu Gaspar have gone big on the likes of Ben White and Aaron Ramsdale. Whilst Martin Odegaard was brought back from Real Madrid on a permanent deal.
Indeed, the atmosphere around Arsenal and their supporters is bleak, to say the least. Yet Wilshere believes that Arteta can get the Gunners back on their feet with the project the Basque manager is building.
Wilshere said when asked about Arteta: “It upsets me to see where they are. One thing I will say is that I do think Arteta is the right guy.
Wilshere added: “Obviously, I see the news, stuff on social media, some people want him out. I think he’s trying to build something and I think it will take time.”
The next few games will be crucial to Arteta and his future at Arsenal. After City, the Gunners face the likes of Norwich City, Burnley and Tottenham, and if the north London side slip up again, a season or promise could turn into another nightmare year for the club.
