Arsenal have a teenager in their academy who could solve their midfield problems and should be given a chance during pre-season.
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have been frustrated so far in their attempts to sign a midfielder to partner Declan Rice next season.
Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi was understood to be the top target for the Gunners this summer but there is a suspicion that the 25-year-old prefers a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Arsenal are ready to explore alternatives for Zubimendi and his teammate Mikel Merino is understood to be one of them. However, rather than spend money on a foreign talent, who could be a risk, perhaps Arteta should turn to one academy star in particular.

Arsenal academy star could solve key midfield problem
Arteta deserves immense praise for bringing through a plethora of incredibly talented academy players including Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel Martinelli.
The Spaniard should turn to the academy once again this summer with 17-year-old Myles Lewis-Skelly one player who has looked impressive in academy football.
Lewis-Skelly has not made a first team appearance yet for the Gunners during his career but has been included in multiple first-team travelling squads.
Arsenal youth coach Jack Wilshere once sung the youngster’s praises back in April, describing him as a “top kid” when speaking to The Athletic.
Ironically, Wilshere may well be the last midfielder to come through at the Emirates Stadium with such excitement about him and the club will be hoping the 17-year-old will be the next cab off the rank to breakthrough in North London.
‘One of the most talented midfielders’ has to be given chance
Arsenal’s pre-season tour will be an important one with so many first team players on holiday for the next few weeks before returning in early August following their participation at Euro 2024.
This could be the perfect chance for Lewis-Skelly to be given a chance in the midfield for the Gunners.
He has superb ability with the ball at his feet and could fit in well at the club and has to take his chance in the first team, if he is given that chance under Arteta.
Last year, Arsenal youth team expert Jeorge Bird wrote on his website that the 17-year-old Lewis-Skelly is ‘undoubtedly one of the most talented youngsters at the club and has so much potential’.
