Speaking on The Big Interview with Graham Hunter, Oriol Romeu has been chatting about reported Arsenal target and Southampton teammate James Ward-Prowse.
Towards the end of the interview, Romeu was tasked with creating something of a fantasy five-a-side team made up of players he’d worked with in the past.
The Spaniard has played for the likes of Barcelona and Chelsea, so as you can imagine, this team was full of talent from Lionel Messi to John Terry, but one Southampton man did make the cut – James Ward-Prowse.
Romeu says that, despite playing with Messi, Ward-Prowse is one of the best, if not the best, free-kick taker he’s ever seen.
What’s been said?
Romeu heaped praise upon Ward-Prowse.
“The next one is Southampton, throughout the seven years I would choose James Ward-Prowse, he’s been a great player to play alongside. He has amazing technique, he’s one of the best if not the best free-kick taker I’ve ever seen and it’s a joy to watch him working every single week,” Romeu said.
“As a manager you’ve just given yourself a really big problem, who is telling Messi that he’s not taking the free-kicks,” Hunter joked.

Ward-Prowse better than Messi?
It’s almost impossible to be better than Lionel Messi at any facet of football, but James Ward-Prowse may well be a better free-kick taker than the Argentine.
Of course, it’s up for debate and in terms of pure numbers, Messi trumps the Southampton star.
However, when it comes to variety and technique, there really aren’t many that can outdo Ward-Prowse.
The Southampton midfielder truly is one of the best set-piece specialists on the planet.
