Former Arsenal ace Samir Nasri has announced his retirement from football at age 34.
According to Sky Sports News, the ex-Arsene Wenger signing has hung up his boots. Nasri’s final club was Belgian side R.S.C. Anderlecht, where the former Arsenal midfielder struggled for regular first-team minutes.
Nasri has a split reputation with Arsenal supporters. The former France international was one of the most exciting players to grace north London in the early years of the Emirates Stadium era of the Gunners.
The playmaker’s silky dribbling and intelligent finishing made him a fan favourite at Arsenal following his arrival from Olympique Marseille. However, a sudden transfer to Manchester City soured his reputation in north London.
Yet despite moving to City, who in that era also signed the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna from Arsenal, some supporters hold Nasri in high regard.
And following this surprise announcement from the former Sevilla star, some Arsenal fans have taken to social media to wish Nasri as he heads into retirement.
