Jamie Redknapp says Tottenham Hotspur star, Rodrigo Bentancur, is ‘one of the best midfield players in the world’.

The 26-year-old suffered an ACL injury back in February and has been out of action since, although, he must be eager to be a part of this new-look Ange Postecoglou style at Tottenham.

Former Spurs man Redknapp certainly can’t wait to see him back on the pitch because he feels that Rodrigo Bentancur will ‘improve’ the team once he is back to full fitness, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (19/08/23 at 7:50 pm).

You could argue that Bentancur is probably Tottenham’s best midfield player on paper, or even now that Harry Kane has left, their best player full stop.

Either way, when he does return to action, the £22 million star (Sky Sports) will feel like a new signing given how long he has been out for.

Nonetheless, these were the positive words Redknapp spoke about Bentancur as he closes in on a return to action.

“Wait until they get Bentancur as well, now he is a top midfielder,” said Redknapp. “You can see it, if they are going to play in the style, then he will even improve that team.

“It just gives you a luxury of players you can bring into the team. He is one of the best midfield players in the world, for me, Bentancur.”

Positive start for Tottenham

Watching Spurs under Postecoglou during these early stages, you wouldn’t have thought that their club-record goalscorer had just left.

The atmosphere inside the Tottenham stadium over the weekend was the best it had been for a while, as the London club punished a struggling Manchester United side.

Getting back to Europe is the aim for Spurs this season, but even if they miss out again, as long as this current style continues and grows, then the fans will get behind the manager.
