Julien Laurens says ‘£30 million’ is a ‘fair’ transfer price for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer.
The European football expert agreed that ‘£40 million’ is too much money for Tottenham to pay, as he described David Raya as a ‘really, really good player’ and ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the league’, as he told ESPN.
When it comes to personal terms, it has been suggested that both Raya and Spurs have agreed on a deal and he is keen to move across London.

But the issue seems to be between both clubs agreeing on a transfer fee for a player that is Brentford’s main guy in between the sticks, a top performer, but he also has 12 months left on his contract.
Is it really a surprise that Daniel Levy is trying his best to pay as little as possible for a new goalkeeper, even though he probably knows that if he puts £40 million down on the table today, then the job is done?
It does risk the chance of Spurs not getting a deal done, and the fans have been here before, with Laurens sharing his thoughts on the Raya situation.
“I think he is great,” said Laurens. “Really, really good. One of the best goalkeepers in the league. Both with his feet and his hands.
“But £40 million? Come on! This is the goalkeeper market we are talking about. I know, for example, Dibu Martinez left Arsenal for Aston Villa for about £20 million. Okay, if that’s the ballpark – I think £30m is fair.
“I would take Raya at Manchester United, 100%. But are you ready to pay £40 million for a goalkeeper when you have other positions (you have to sort out) and Spurs are the same?
“You can’t just put £40 million on a goalkeeper if it means there isn’t much for other positions, especially at centre-back, where they really have to strengthen and strengthen well.”

Raya would be a top replacement for Lloris
Firstly, the right call has been made for Hugo Lloris to head for the exit door after a season of error-prone performances that cost his side many points.
If Raya happens to be his replacement, then at the age of 27, they would be signing a player that would elevate their performances at the back for the long-term.
Also, with Ange Postecoglou through the doors, and the treble-winning coach keen to change the style of play, one area of Tottenham’s game that might just now be elevated, is them playing out from the back at a high level.
