Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport (via Sky Italia), Napoli’s Sporting Director, Cristiano Giuntoli, has been discussing Victor Osimhen and Erling Haaland.
Osimhen has been linked with both Tottenham and Liverpool in recent weeks, and according to Giuntoli, the Nigerian striker is just as good as Erling Haaland.
Indeed, the Napoli chief spoke about almost signing Haaland, but rather than closing a deal for the Norwegian, he opted to go out and sign Osimhen who he regards as being on par with the Manchester City star.

Giuntoli spoke about his striker.
“We had already made the contract with Salzburg with the agreement to pay the 25 million euro clause. Then he chose Borussia Dortmund and we went to Osimhen who for us was on par with the Norwegian,” Giuntoli said.
Not quite
While it’s great to hear that Giuntoli rates his player so highly, saying that Osimhen is as good as Haaland is wide of the mark.
Don’t get us wrong, the Napoli striker is fantastic player in his own right, but he’s not even close to Haaland.
Osimhen has never hit more than 20 goals in a season. Haaland, meanwhile, already has 23 goals to his name this season, and it’s only November.
Haaland is genuinely a once in a generation talent, and there genuinely may not be another striker in the world on his level over the past few years.
Osimhen isn’t a Haaland-level striker, but he is a fantastic centre-forward who would be an absolute asset to either Tottenham or Liverpool should they wish to ramp up their interest in the Serie A star.
