Liverpool reportedly remain interested in signing Franck Kessie.
Sport Mediaset reported in July that Liverpool were keen on bringing the AC Milan powerhouse to Anfield this past summer.
But nothing materialised and the window closed without Jurgen Klopp having signed a midfielder.
But long term, the German manager still needs a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
And Gazzetta Dello Sport have reported that Liverpool remain keen on the 24-year-old midfield star who, according to the same report, has turned down Milan’s latest contract offer of £107,000 per week.
As things stand, Kessie will be leaving San Siro for absolutely nothing next summer and here’s how some fans of the Premier League giants reacted to potentially getting him on a Bosman.
Long term
You can sort of understand why Klopp didn’t sign a replacement for Wijnaldum.
After all, he has almost £100 million in under-used talent in the form of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, while Harvey Elliott is proving himself a major asset in midfield this season.
But long term, as mentioned, it would be wise to sign a reliable box-to-box midfielder because two of those three names – Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain – just aren’t reliable in terms of fitness, with both being through the ringer during their time at the club.
Last season, Kessie scored 14 goals and set up another six in all competitions which, for a midfielder, is a brilliant return and you can see why the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly keen on getting the lad.
