Tottenham Hotspur fans are worried after Antonio Conte let slip that he was set to name a number of fringe players against Leicester City tonight.

Much changed team?

Tottenham’s preparations for the game have been heavily disrupted by a covid outbreak.

They have recently had to shut down their training ground, and still have several players missing from training.

Conte told Football London yesterday that Tottenham will be relying on players who typically haven’t started too often to step up later.

He said: “I think instead this type of situation, to have so many players with Covid, gives a chance and an opportunity for all the players to show me that they’re good, that they deserve to stay with Tottenham.

“It’s a big chance. Surely in this type of situation, you need the whole squad, to give opportunities to players that in this month didn’t play so much.”

The identity of which players will get a chance is not yet known.

But the early team news that so many fringe players could be involved has concerned Tottenham fans.

Reason for concern

Now, Tottenham fans can hardly be blamed for worrying.

They do have a large squad, but when their fringe players have been tasked with stepping up they simply haven’t done so well enough this term.

Spurs’ form in a relatively easy Conference League group has not been impressive at all.

Their humiliating defeat to Mura is an obvious worry, when Conte shuffled his pack, and while Tottenham will surely deliver better than that this evening there will be plenty of players with a point to prove if they do start.
