Official faces Scottish FA ban hearing after row with Rangers kid

Referee Calum Haswell will face a Scottish FA disciplinary charge after allegedly insulting a Rangers player during the Gers’ under-18 clash with bitter rivals Celtic in May.

Haswell was cited by the Scottish FA over a verbal altercation with one of the Rangers players after the 2-0 defeat by Celtic and was due to appear at Hampden today – but it has now been pushed back by two weeks to July 15.

The official is accused of breaching rule 77, which says “A recognised football body, club, official, Team Official, other member of Team Staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of Association Football. Furthermore such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent Conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour.”

Despite losing the game 2-0, Rangers would go on and win the CAS under-18 title and secure the young Gers’ place in this season’s UEFA Youth League.

The Hampden disciplinary panel will also today look at Rangers Academy Chris McKee’s red card for excessive misconduct while on loan at Brechin City last season.
