Chris Powell told Sky Sports News (21/08/21 at 5:10 pm) that rumoured Liverpool target Ismaila Sarr is an ‘exciting player’.
The England coach made comment about the likes of Crystal Palace and Liverpool being linked with the Watford attacker.
There have been suggestions that Liverpool want to sign Sarr, but it seems as though Watford would demand £80 million for his services.
Given how Liverpool conduct their transfer business, it would be quite a shock if they put that sort of money on the table for his talents.
But Powell, who was a left-back during his playing days, lauded Sarr’s qualities and how he would deal with him.
‘Crystal Palace have been a team that have always been linked with him and now Liverpool,” said Powell.
“I always talk about coming out of retirement as a left-back. But when I saw him I said ‘I am glad that I am retired now’.
“I think on a one-to-one basis, you would have to get as tight as you can and early. If you give him space then he’s going to exploit it with his pace. If you get tight too early then he will spin in behind.
“With your winger in front of you and your centre-back, you will just say ‘listen, I have got a bit of a job on my hands today’.
“If he picks up his pace then anything can happen. He’s an exciting player and top player in the Championship last season.”

Sarr didn’t manage to cause havoc over the weekend against Brighton as Watford fell to a 2-0 defeat.
But on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, he caused havoc against Aston Villa.
Liverpool fans know full well how good Sarr is because he ended their unbeaten run during the COVID-hit campaign that saw them win the Premier League title.
Whilst it’s unlikely that Sarr will make a move this summer, it does seem as though he will be heading to a team in the Champions League sooner rather than later given how he is rising as a forward.
