Tottenham fans are hoping that Xherdan Shaqiri’s exit from Liverpool has opened the door for them to sign Houssem Aouar before transfer deadline day.

Liverpool confirmed on Monday on their official website that Shaqiri has left the Merseyside club and joined up with Lyon in France.

The Ligue 1 giants already have a creative talent on their books in Aouar – who is being looked at by the likes of Spurs.

And with days remaining until the summer transfer window slams shut, Spurs fans want their club to use this chance to pounce for the 23-year-old’s talents.

Given that Lyon have brought Shaqiri in, and there is already talk about Aouar leaving, then this just seems inevitable that he is heading for the exit door.

Spurs fans think they need someone of his forward-thinking abilities in their midfield to elevate their previously declining side, although they thought they had that in Tanguy Ndombele.

The Frenchman is Tottenham’s club-record signing, but he now wants to leave because it seems as though he won’t be part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plan.

Nonetheless, Aouar is someone who has been spoken about for a long time and it seems as though he is destined for a move to the Premier League.

Tottenham have previous of doing deals pretty late on in the window and they are certainly a team to watch out for during these coming days.

Here is a selection of Spurs fans reacting to Shaqiri leaving Anfield and possibly opening that door for Aouar:
